All smiles

It’s true.  This child doesn’t like to smile for the cameras.  In fact he’s a very shy kid.  Possibly one of the shyest kids in Waco, TX.  That’s why you always have to have tricks up your sleeve.  The thing you CANNOT do is say, “Smile!”  That’s possibly the worst strategy to getting the shy ones to smile during a childrens photography session.  Either you end up with something very forced or you end up with a frown that seems to be cast in cement. Neither option can match the power of a truly joyful smile.

Natural smiles are the best and that often means laughter.  Laughter means big, natural smiles and every photographer has a few tricks in the bag for eliciting laughter.  As many have found out the hard way childrens photography can be the toughest and most unpredictable kind.  The number one trick though is to have fun!  I have a blast photographing all people whether it be a family, children or senior photography session and a lot of great smiles have come from infectious fun.  I always try to be at the ready to capture that fun. Don’t be surprised if during our next photo session one second we are standing around talking and the next I am hitting the shutter button.  Some of the most memorable moments come during those spontaneous bouts of laughter and conversation.

I hope to see you through the lens soon.
